Maintaining a Healthy Lawn Through the Florida Heat
August 5, 2025 · Hodges Lawn & Turf Specialists
Florida heat can stress lawns fast, but the fix is usually about timing. Water deeply in the early morning so roots can absorb moisture before the sun gets intense. Avoid short, frequent watering that only wets the surface and encourages shallow roots.
Mowing height matters too. Keeping grass a little taller shades the soil, reduces evaporation, and protects the crown. A sharp blade prevents tearing and helps the lawn recover quicker after heavy rains or hot stretches. We also recommend seasonal fertilization and a quick soil check to avoid overfeeding during peak heat.
If you notice thinning or discoloration, it may be irrigation coverage or compacted soil rather than disease. A simple system tune-up and core aeration can restore vigor without major expense.
